Steven deeply values his Finnish-English heritage, a testament to his parents’ dedication in establishing Karelia Holidays. Following their passing, Steven inherited the cherished family business. Driven by his passion for the New Forest and its woodland surroundings, Steven and his Finnish wife, Susanna, set out to grow the business in their honour.
With the help of Steven’s children, Timo and Elina, the family led it through a transformative decade through the acquisition of the Thatch Cottage and Avon View, and the expansion and modernisation of Viipuri, Karelia, and The Art Studio. These modern updates reflect our long standing experience of the holiday rental industry and our commitment to maintaining the warm, welcoming retreats that Richard and Helena first envisioned. A true home away from home, whilst ensuring that our guests enjoy a seamless fusion of tradition and modern comfort.
After spending many years in Italy, Steven invited his close friend Gigi, an Italian chef, to become part of the team. Gigi delights guests by hosting exquisite Italian dining experiences within the comfort of the properties.
This collection now comprises of five unique and beautiful homes on the edge of the New Forest, managed with dedication by Steven, his Finnish wife Susanna, and his children, Timo and Elina.

Viipuri is the closest cabin to the WW2 Bunker Sauna and plunge pool, which is available for your use upon request, and is only meters from the Ringwood Forest border, offering direct views into the forest from both inside and outside. There is a large terrace that is equipped with a private hot tub, garden furniture, and a BBQ. The spacious mature garden offers ample room for children to play and explore. The cabin also provides plenty of parking space.
Direct access to the Ringwood forest, which is home to the renowned Moors Valley Country Park, means cycling, hiking and wildlife watching are literally on your doorstep. Many species of birds make their home with us and it’s not uncommon to spot rabbits and squirrels during your stay.
